Llanbedr Calendar:
DEC/JAN
Christmas
is a good time to visit with services in our small ancient churches,
the duck race on the Artro or the annual Christmas village
football match “the north of the river verses the south”,
and performances by “Cor Meibion Ardudwy Male Voice Choir”.
The mountains can be magical with a covering of
snow. With clean
crisp air, this is a good time to throw off the winter blues
with
a walk in the hills and mountains where you may see the shaggy
black and white wild goats with their enormous horns, as the
winter
brings them down to from the mountains to graze. And at the
end of the day you can return to the warmth of our quality
hotels.
FEB/MARCH
Come and stay on a farm B&B
and see the newborn lambs. Perhaps even get the chance to hand
feed them. See the roadsides full of daffodils or wander through
the woods to see the clusters of delicate white wood anemones
and wood sorrel. There is still a good chance of snow on the mountains
and if the weather is stormy choose to stay in one of our self-catering
cottages and enjoy a real wood fire. In the evening go down
to one of the village pubs for a friendly drink and a chat at
the bar.
APRIL/MAY
There
is nothing quite like spring with the first flush of green in
the woods which abounds in the Artro and Nantcol valleys.
Look out for the clumps of
shy primroses hidden in the verges. You won’t have to look far for the
carpets of blue, which cover our woods at this time of year. Almost half of
the world’s bluebells are in the British Isles and I am sure half of
those must be around Llanbedr! You may even catch sight of the first swallows
and swifts that come to take up residence in the many stone barns of the area.
JUNE/JULY
June is a good time to visit. With early summer come the longer
days when you can watch the sun rise over the Rhinog mountains
that form the majestic back
drop to the area, or catch the sun going down over the Lleyn Peninsula setting
the sea and sky alight with a dazzling array of colours.
Look out for the hill farmers gathering the sheep for shearing with their world
famous Border Collie dogs. July is the time for village fetes and fairs in
Snowdonia, the Llanbedr fete goes on all day and into the evening, an event
not to be missed (12th July) With long warm days this is a good time to bring
your tent or caravan and try one of our local sites. This part of the coast
becomes busier in July as the traditional holiday season sets in, but here
you can still escape the crowds if you want to.
AUG/SEPT
This
is a great time for all of the family to head for the beach and
have fun in the sea, but if the beach isn’t for you then
there is still plenty to do, both around and within easy reach
of the village.
Take a look at our “Things to See and Do” page.
By September the children are back at school but the weather is
still good, in fact it can be more settled than in the summer
months, the sun is still warm and the days are still long, and
this is the ideal time to try one of the high quality guest
houses.
OCT/NOV
The
brilliant colours of autumn fill the valleys of the Artro and
the Nantcol at this time of year. With cooler days this is a
super time to walk the surrounding hills and mountains, and in
the
evening
why not stay
in the local pubs/hotels for a warm welcome, a karaoke or a
quiz.
And for a real treat listen in to the Ardudwy Male Voice Choir
rehearsing in the village hall, every Sunday 7:30 p.m.
Whatever time of year you choose to come, whether you stay on
a campsite, a farm, in a B&B,
a guesthouse, self-catering
accommodation or hotel, there
is always a friendly welcome waiting for you.
